The bus network is a local area network (LAN) based on a linear formation. Devices (or nodes) are connected to a single, main communications line. The data travels along this line and all nodes monitor the "traffic". A node will only accept data specifically addressed to it. The benefit of this type of configuration is that the malfunction of a single device does not disrupt the network, it just ceases to access data from the line.
